Background Information

The School of Dentistry provides dental care at two locations. Our main clinic is on the University of Detroit Mercy Corktown Campus, which is located near downtown Detroit, one block east of I-96 Jeffries Freeway and within minutes of I-94, I-75, and the Lodge Freeway. The School of Dentistry also provides dental care at the University Health Center at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

If you are interested in becoming a patient:

Call 313-494-6700 to schedule a screening appointment.
Bring all x-rays from the last five years.
Complete the enclosed health questionnaire and patient information sheet.
Bring ALL current medications with you.
Bring all insurance information, your insurance card, and photo identification.
At your first visit, a staff dentist will examine you to determine the difficulty of your case.
There is no charge for this screening appointment, but you will need a current set of x-rays.
If you need x-rays there will be a $48.00 charge for these x-rays.
If you are under the care of a physician, please bring the name and address of your physician.

Things to Remember

If you are interested, we hope to see you soon. However, not all patients are accepted to the student clinical program. Patients may also request a staff or faculty dentist for their care.

Because our students provide you care, your care will take longer in the student clinical program than in a private dental office.

What to Expect as a Patient

Most of our patients are part of our student clinical program. If you are assigned to a dental student, you will be examined and a plan for your treatment will be developed. This will usually require two or sometimes three visits and may involve making molds of your teeth. Expect to spend three hours for each appointment twice every month until your treatment is completed.

Payment

The School of Dentistry accepts most insurance plans including Medicaid. You will be responsible for your insurance co-payment when treatment is provided. We will provide you an estimate of your costs before beginning your treatment. Payment for treatment is expected at each visit. Payments may be made by Master Card, Visa, or cash.

Specialty Services

The University of Detroit Mercy offers specialty care. The following specialties have clinics:

Endodontics: specialty care in root canals.
Orthodontics: specialty care using braces to straighten teeth in adults and children.
Periodontics: specialty care of gums and supporting tooth structures.
Pediatric Dentistry: care for the treatment of children 3-years to 16-years old.
Oral surgeons are available for wisdom teeth and consultations.

We also provide dental services for medically compromised patients at University Health Center in Detroit Receiving Hospital.

The University of Detroit Mercy also offers patients opportunities to participate in the Faculty Practice Program for those who cannot allow time for treatment in the dental student program. The fees for this clinic are comparable to private practice.

A parent or guardian must remain in the clinic building during the treatment of a minor under the age of 18.

"Patient Centered" Care

We share with you the responsibility for your dental health. We will help you with regular cleaning and check-ups.

The faculty, staff and students are committed to patient centered care.
We are committed to providing you with complete dental care.
Fees for dental care in our student clinics are about 1/2 the cost of private dentists.
We provide after hours emergency for our patients in active treatment.
All patients can receive emergency care between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
